Katie Gardner recently went to Uganda with a team to work with (mostly) kids in internal displacement camps. She taught photography alongside others who were doing long term counseling for those who had been forced to be child soldiers, and medical education. The organization she worked with is instituting long-term care in multiple countries on top of Uganda, primarily focusing on orphans in the surrounding regions.

Her art is evocative, beautiful — the images linger long after you’ve stopped looking.

Julia CR Gray’s artist statement:

The motive for my work remains the same whether the subject is the natural world, the cultural world or a mythical world: to become immersed in the beauty and mystery of the world.  And to share the joy I experience bringing these benevolent beings to life through delicious color and rhythmic paint strokes.

We are all connected on this planet. Poverty, environmental stability, inequality, poor health and lack of education affect the quality of life of all. I believe that my awareness and desire to create balance is integrated in the art I create. I hope I can touch people with this consciousness and even further, create an influence of people taking action to make a difference in others lives and the life of our planet.

Join me at ARTruism and bring a SuperFood to support the health of our community.

Gumaro Pina’s artwork represents multiple MDGs: gender equality, enviornmental stability, global partnership and ending poverty.

In Gumaro’s own words:

The reason why I paint is because it allows me to show people the beauty in nature, other cultures and the great things that we can do as people regardless of race.

Be sure to catch the peaceful, beautiful music of Paul Hanna at this year’s UN Charter Day event.

Taken directly from his Web site:

The music reflects on the need and want for the people to live in a peaceful, simple and conscience manner. Create your own, be you, use your gifts. Each person carries her/his gifts. We must use them in a positive way.

The UN Charter Day event will be held on Saturday, June 27 from 2 to 5 pm at the International Cottages Lawn at Balboa Park.

Krista Coatney-Stern premieres her photography at this year’s UN Charter Day event. Oblivious to her talent, she takes random shots of nature and everyday life that elicit thoughts of subdued time. She captures a moment, bare, untouched, perfect, timeless — this art could have been created 50 years ago.

Judith Pedroza has a unique education between the arts and design, culminating in visually pleasing and equally thought-provoking pieces that are heavy on architecture. Her pieces are beautiful and they feel deeply calculated, yet light. Circles and swirls, straight lines and various and diverse materials equal simple yet complicated art.
